What Am I Asking For?

Sometimes I wonder if I am asking for right things.  This morning as take the train into Toronto I reading John chapter 4 and this verse stood out to me:

10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

See the woman that Jesus was speaking with was concerned about appearance and asked Jesus “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?”.  I know why she would be concerned this simply wasn't apart of the culture - a Jewish Man speaking with Samaritan woman.

As I look at my culture, my first world comfortable culture I wonder if I am asking for the right things.  It's not I that I want to feel ashamed for living in Canada and enjoying some of the comforts of the first world - (this post isn't about rich vs poor which if you're living in the developed world we are all rich in comparison to the much of the world that lives on less $2 a day.)

Actually maybe it is about rich vs poor but not the monetary meaning. How am I asking Jesus everyday to fill me with His love and grace so that I can live that out in the world around me? How can I be rich in love, rich in grace, rich in mercy, rich in kindness? These are things I should be asking for.

So today as I head into the one of the culture hubs of Canada (downtown Toronto) I ask God that you would fill with me your love, grace, mercy, joy, hope that I would be a light to who you are.

The adventure continues......
